What is love?

So I have been thinking a lot lately about love and what it is. It's a tricky little thing with so many meanings, here is what I came up with: 1. Family- Love is knowing that you have something to fall back on no matter what happens. For family, it also means loving someone you might not care for or even talk to. Some sort of weird connection puts love in your heart whether you want it there or not.  2. Friends- Meeting someone and you're so connected that you care so deeply about them. You listen to their joys and their problems without hesitation. This feeling of love is different because you choose them and often feel closer to them than your own family.  3. Animal/Pets- This is an aggressive love. You can own the animal or just see it and you instantly want to cry or squeeze it hard. This is one of the best kinds of love. 4. Sexual- Something for just me, not to be discussed with others.  5. Children- The best kind of love, you give birth to them, see them grow ...

Holidays

I like to write about growing up. This is the first time in my life that I have actually shared and talked about growing up with such peace. I was always afraid to share information and let people in, I now understand this was because I was afraid that if I let anyone know how I was feeling and shared stories they would just leave and be part of my sad story. The moral of that is I have childhood trauma, surprise surprise who doesn't that grow up in the 90's?  As a small child holidays were pretty fun. I would spend holidays with either my birth dad's parents or my birth mom's parents. Mostly we would start at home and do something fun and then go to my other grandparents' house and do something fun. These fun activities would include food, cousins, and the great outdoors. A typical holiday would include waking up, opening presents, or finding eggs, followed by my Aunt visiting with her three kids. My cousins and I would go outside to ride bikes and play with chalk...

Growing Up

One of the most fascinating things about being a grown-up is coming to the realization that the world did grow up the same as you did. It took me years to realize that everyone's life was so different and personal to them.  Yes, I understood growing up that people in different parts of the country and different ethnic backgrounds grew up differently but I didn't understand that someone just right down the road grew up completely different than I did.  I had the pleasure of growing up with my grandparents. They took my sister and me to their home when our birth parents decided that their lives were more important and spectacular than the lives of their children. This may sound aggressive but it is in fact true, my father was a drunk and my mother is selfish. I was blessed to have loving grandparents who halted their lives to raise two little girls who were not their responsibility.  I grew up in the country on what used to be a farm. We had several unused barns, lots...

Welcome

Welcome to Sorento Ave, the name of this blog is one of many physical things that have affected my way of thinking. I was raised in a very small town of under 600 people and didn't even have the fun of living within city limits. Instead, I lived on what used to be a small farm a few miles outside of town.  The purpose of the blog is to just get things out of my head, there is no rhyme or reason to this and there is no planned out theme or aspiration to make money. This is just me spilling my guts and telling you stories of my life and my way of thinking.  I am a married woman living in the Midwest, I have a full-time job and 3 children. I am nothing special, and I have nothing special, but I do love sharing stories and opinions with people who will listen. I hope you have a good laugh, and relate in some way. I am a great voice of reason and love the difference between people and their opinions. So stick around if you just want to read a real-life story every once in a w...
